The Bruins could not overcome Upstate opponent Southern Wesleyan University as the Bruins fell 49-88 in Central, South Carolina on Wednesday evening.
"It was a rough night on the road," said Head Coach Mike LeViere. "We went into the game focused on rebounding and turnovers. We ended the first quarter with 3 turnovers and ended the first half being out-rebounded by four. After the third quarter, we were down by two on rebounds. But we totally lost it in the fourth quarter and just didn't rebound. We were able to get some significant minutes from a lot of our bench and that can only help us in the future."
Both teams came into tonight's game on the heels of games the night before. The Bruins have now suffered back-to-back losses as they fell 57-69 to Warren Wilson on Tuesday. Southern Wesleyan snapped their 10-game losing streak yesterday after defeating King University (Tennessee) 83-71.
Tamrah Konieczka would get the scoring started in tonight's game as she hit a three-pointer a few minutes after tip-off. The Warriors would then go on an 11 point run before Catherine Skebo would go to the line and shoot for two. As the first quarter was winding down, Bailey Green would make a layup to bring the score to 11-17 in favor of the Warriors at the end of the first quarter.
The two teams continued to battled it out in the second quarter, but the Bruins would fall behind and be down by 19 points heading into halftime.
After the break, Shea Dickinson would go to the free-throw line where she would make both of her shots to get the scoring started for the visiting team. Delaney Edwards would then take her turn at the line. After making both of her shots, she would sink a layup to cut down at the deficit. The Warriors would then go on to sink three consecutive three-pointers to pull ahead even further. The third quarter ended with the Bruins behind 35-59. The Bruins went 7-8 on free throws in the third quarter, but only shot 20% from the field.
In the final quarter, the Bruins went 4-4 on free throws and shot 57% from the field, but were unable to rebound like they needed and fell 49-88 on the road.
Tamrah Konieczka led with 10 points in tonight's contest, as Delaney Edwards and Bailey Green were close behind with nine. Delaney saw five rebounds and Jessiann Wiedmann recorded 4 on the night.
Up next, the Bruins will travel to Florida where they will take on South Region rivals Pensacola Christian College for a Saturday night matchup.
