In their first road game of the season, the Bruins fell 13-3 to Columbia International University. With today's loss, the Bruins move to 0-8 on the season.
"We started off well tonight," said Head Coach Brent Casteel. "Riley Ramsey and Daniel Barcena have been swinging well the past few games. But between our errors and CIU's aggressive bats, we just couldn't hold them down."
The Bruins came into today's game after falling in a weekend series against Carolina University. On their second game on Saturday, they battled back to force extra innings, but weren't able to find the winning run. CIU, the defending NCCAA World Series champions, were 6-14 coming into today's contest and were able to improve on their season after the win.
Jerry Dunwoody would start on the mound for the Bruins and held off the Rams until Britton Morris would hit one out of the park to get the home team on the board at the bottom of the second inning.
At the top of the third inning, Riley Ramsey scored to even the score off of an error by the short stop. With two outs, Daniel Barcena hit a home run to send him and Zach Burk around the bases and giving the Bruins the 3-1 lead. CIU would take back the lead at the bottom of the third. The Bruins were unable to slow down the Rams as they fell 13-3 in Columbia, South Carolina.
Next up, the Bruins come back home as they host Toccoa Falls College this Friday and Saturday at Conestee Park in Greenville, South Carolina.
