Bears Beat Bruins in Tuesday Doubleheader

Bob Jones made the trip to Cleveland, Georgia to take on Truett McConnell University. The Bruins baseball team dropped both games in their Tuesday doubleheader falling 7-1 in game one and 13-5 in the second game of the day.

"The team gave a lot of effort today. We had 17 hits on the day, but we just couldn't get the timing right to produce runs," said Head Coach Brent Casteel. "We're looking forward to getting back at it this weekend."

The baseball team entered the Tuesday doubleheader after going 2-1 against Mid-Atlantic Christian University with their opponents sweeping the weekend over Johnson University (TN). This was the third meeting in program history between the two schools with Truett McConnell beating the Bruins twice last season.

As game one got underway, the Bears would hold the Bruins scoreless until the fifth inning. Isaiah Brandt, Colby Hogan and Riley Ramsey all singled to get on base at the top of the fifth inning. As Cole Pearson made his way to the plate, he would fly out to left field giving Brandt the chance to score. This would be the only run scored for the Bruins as they fell 7-1 through seven innings.

The Bruins were able to record 8 hits in game one with Hogan leading with three and Brandt right behind with two.

After a quick break, the Bruins looked to turn the score around for game two of the day. Truett McConnell came out swinging, scoring five runs in the first inning. Brandon Davis would get the Bruins on the board thanks to an RBI from Colby Hogan at the top of inning two, but the Bruins saw themselves down 11-1 after two innings of play.

Riley Ramsey would cross the plate in the top of the fifth and Bob Jones continued to trim at the deficit with two more runs in the sixth inning. They scored once more in the final inning, but it wasn't enough as the Bruins fell 13-5 in game two to Truett McConnell University.

The Bruins are back in action this weekend for a three-game series at Covenant College on Friday and Saturday.
