Bruins Keep Postseason Dreams Alive After Splitting Opening Day of South Regional Tournament

The Bob Jones University Bruins baseball team advances to day two of post-season competition with a 4-1 victory over #6 Trinity Baptist College after falling to #3 Carolina University in the opening day of the South Regional Tournament. The Bruins look to keep their region championship dreams alive as they play their second elimination game tomorrow against #4 Southeastern Baptist College at 4 p.m. in Mocksville, North Carolina.

"What a great win tonight against Trinity Baptist College," said Head Coach Brent Casteel. "We had timely hits and a great pitching performance by Joshua Legnard who kept Trinity to a one-run game."

It was a battle of the Bruins to begin the regional tournament as the Bob Jones University Bruins and the Carolina University Bruins faced off for the seventh time this season. Carolina University got off to a hot start scoring 20 runs through six innings. Conley Burk hit the ball out of the park in the bottom of the second inning to get the Bruins on the board before an RBI from Daniel Wood gave Bob Jones a second run after four innings of play. Two more Bruins would score in the fifth, but the deficit was too much for the South Carolina team to overcome as they fell 20-4 in their first game of the South Regional Tournament.

After a couple hours of rest, the Bruins were back on the field for an elimination game against Trinity Baptist College. This would be the first time the two schools met this season.

Wasting no time, the Bruins got off to a quick start scoring two runs to kick off the evening game. Trinity Baptist College responded with a run in the bottom of the first to cut the Bruins lead to 2-1. As the top of the third inning came around, the Bruins saw themselves down to their final out of the inning. Looking to extend his team's lead, Riley Ramsey knocked one out of the park for his fourth home run of the season. Next up to bat was Zach Burk who also sent one flying for back-to-back home runs for the Bruins bringing the score to 4-1.

Pitcher Joshua Legnard held the Eagles to only one run as he threw 8 strikeouts and pitched his fourth complete game of the season as the Bruins came away with the 4-1 victory.

Next up, the Bruins will play in another elimination game on Tuesday afternoon against #4 Southeastern Baptist College. First pitch for the game is scheduled for 4 p.m. in Mocksville, North Carolina.
