Women's Soccer Team Prepares for Regular Season with Match Against Furman University

The Bob Jones University Bruins women's soccer team fell 9-0 to NCAA Division I school, Furman University to wrap up their preseason and prepare for the 2022 regular season.

"The main focus of this exhibition match was to give as many players as possible some game time and to let them get used to a very fast paced top-ranked NCAA DI team," said women's soccer Head Coach Chris Carmichael. "I saw enough tonight to know that we will get to where we need to be to compete well this season. With a short preseason we are going to have to be patient with the process needed to have another winning season which I believe we will achieve as well as another trip to the NCCAA DI nationals. As we look at this film and continue to build, I have no doubt we will get there."

While this was a preseason exhibition for the Bruins, the Furman University Paladins were already in the full swing of regular season play as this was their fifth game of the season. Tuesday's match at Furman was the first team the Bruins have faced this season.

The Paladins controlled the game and held the Bruins to a 4-0 lead at halftime, and came back and scored 5 more to finish the game.

After tonight's game Coach Carmichael said that "we are going to need time to get our new players integrated into our style of play. We had quite a few new players and returners step up and play well tonight. Our defense really improved in the second half of tonight's game and shot down most of the balls inside the 18 but we didn't step up fast enough to take away their long shots which were absolute golazos. The main thing is that we need time as we have only had about seven days of training sessions and this was our first game compared to Furman's four regular season games."

The Bruins kick off the regular season this weekend on the road as they make the trip to Raleigh, North Carolina. They will face off against North Carolina Wesleyan University Friday afternoon before a noon match on Saturday against Meredith College.
