The men's soccer team continues to look for their first win of the season as they fell 2-1 to Truett McConnell University Saturday night in Cleveland, Georgia. With tonight's result, the Bruins are 0-3-1 on the season.
"We came out a little flat and we're sucker punched twice off of some weird moments in the game, but I'm really proud of the way our team responded in the second half of this game," said Head Coach Greg Fulton. "Ultimately, I believe we took another step forward. While piecing together an entire 90 minutes is always the goal, we were able to come out and win the second half 1 to 0."
The Bruins entered today's game after a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Piedmont University on Thursday while Truett McConnell University came into the match against beating Point University 2-0 earlier in the week. This was the eighth meeting between the two programs.
Truett McConnell University had several good looks early into the game and broke the deadlock just 10 minutes in. Coming in right off the bench, Victor Muenapale stepped onto the field and gave the Bruins their first shot 29 minutes in. The Bruins saw four more opportunities to tie the game in the first half, but with just three minutes left, the Bears doubled their lead and the Bruins went into halftime down 2-0. Â
Conley Burk scored the first and only goal in the second half, striking the ball from outside the box past the Bears defense and goalkeeper in the 63rd minute. The Bruins continued fighting for the equalizer, but fell they fell short as the game ended 2-1 in favor of the Bears.Â
"I have really been impressed with how our boys have stepped up when they are needed," said Fulton. "Now, we will take a couple days to regroup and attack next weeks fixtures."
Up next, the Bruins make their way to Mount Vernon, Georgia to face Brewton-Parker College Tuesday evening.Â
