Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Kaitlyn Unruh

Bruins Shutout by Monarchs on the Road

The women's soccer team was dealt a tough 5-0 shutout loss against Methodist University Saturday afternoon in Fayetteville, North Carolina. After today's result, the Bruins are now 5-2 overall on the season.

"I thought we started off good and were able to break their pressure well but just fell away from our game plan and Methodist University punished us for each mistake," said Head Coach Chris Carmichael.

This was the first meeting between the two schools as both teams entered after wins earlier in the week.

Methodist University scored early and went up 1-0 just four minutes into the match. They doubled their lead halfway through the first half to come out on top at the half. It was another quick start for the Monarchs after the break as they would get another one past the Bruins three minutes into the second half of play. The Monarchs scored back to back goals in the 60th and 61st minute to bring the score to 5-0.

Despite some great goal-scoring opportunities by the Bruins, the Monarchs were able to hold on to their clean sheet and get the 5-0 win.

Coach Carmichael was able to get everyone playing time throughout today's game and saw several players step up coming up off the bench. He said "the team embraced the positive performance of those coming off the bench."

"This is one of those games we have to just learn from and move on," said Carmichael. "We will watch the film, fix it, and try to move in a positive direction. We have what could be our toughest opponent of the season, Centre University, this coming Tuesday, and we will have our work cut out to keep that match competitive."

The Bruins host Centre University Tuesday evening for a 5 p.m. matchup from Alumni Stadium.
