Bruins Soar Over Screaming Eagles with 5-0 Win

The Bob Jones University men's soccer team picked up their second win and shutout of the season as they soared past the Toccoa Falls Screaming Eagles 5-0 from Alumni Stadium in Greenville, South Carolina. With today's win over their region rival, the Bruins have improved to 2-3-1 overall and are 1-0 in region play.

"I feel great about the win. I feel great that we put goals in the back of the net," said Head Coach Greg Fulton. "The momentum is building as we've got two wins in a row which is huge. We're going to work on the things we've got to work on as we want to get better as a unit as we progress through the season."

The Bruins came in to tonight's contest on the heels of a 3-0 victory at Brewton-Parker College on Tuesday to capture their first win of the season. Their Georgia rivals, Toccoa Falls College, were looking to pick of their first win of the season as they made the trip up to Greenville.

Bob Jones got off to a quick start tonight as Jake Provenzano chipped the ball forward to Micah Hennegan who touched the ball to send it rolling past the Toccoa Falls keeper giving the Bruins an early 1-0 lead.

Just a few minutes later, a mistake by the Screaming Eagles back line in clearing the ball gave freshman Bryce Ramler the perfect opportunity to sail the ball into the back of the net doubling the lead for the Bruins.

It was Bryce Ramler with the brace in the 23rd minute as a beautiful cross by Jake Provenzano set up Ramler perfectly for another Bruins goal.

Trailing by three, the Screaming Eagles looked to get on the board with their first two opportunities of the night just following the Bruins goal, but the home team was able to hold them off and keep their clean sheet.

With just over five minutes remaining in the first half, the Bruins were hungry for more and it was Rylan Boldt to send a beautiful curling shot into the back of the net on the near side to increase the lead to four for the home team.

At the end of the first half, the Bruins led with 14 shots and only allowed two from the Screaming Eagles.

As the second half got underway, the Bruins continued to look for more goals and saw 16 shots before a game of tic tac toe in the 86th minute set up a opportunity for Ashur Stevens to score and bring the goal total to five.

The Bruins came away with another victory and clean sheet as they defeated the Screaming Eagles 5-0 at home. Bob Jones out shot Toccoa Falls 31-3 and earned eight corner kicks in tonight's contest.

Encouraged by tonight's win, Coach Fulton said that there are still things his team needs to better, but they will look at game film and work on it during training ahead of a big week ahead.

Next week, the Bruins travel to Due West, South Carolina to face Division II opponent, Erskine College before coming back home for another rivalry game against Pensacola Christian College.
