The Bruins volleyball team will get its first glimpse of region play this weekend as the team competes in the South Region kickoff tournament in Pensacola, Florida. The Bruins come into the match at 1-4 on the season after falling to Huntingdon College on Thursday night in Montgomery, Alabama.
In their history, the Bruins have seen much success in the South region having captured five of the last six region championships while posting an impressive 42-2 record against region opponents. They saw their region championship streak snapped last season as the Bruins fell to Pensacola in the region championship.
On Friday, the Bruins will play a pair of matches beginning with Trinity College (FL) at 3 p.m. The Tigers come into the match at 1-3 on the season having defeated Trinity Baptist College in a five-set match on September 1. This will be the seventh meeting between the Bruins and Tigers with the Bruins owning a 6-0 record in those past matches.
The Bruins will wrap up play on Friday against rival Pensacola Christian College in a rematch of last year's region championship. The Eagles enter the match after being ranked #2 overall in the NCCAA DII national rankings. PCC is 2-2 on the season after falling to University of Mobile 3-0 on Tuesday. This will be the 18th meeting between the two programs with the Bruins owning a 15-2 record against the Eagles. The match is set for 5 p.m.
On Saturday, the Bruins will wrap up the Florida road trip with two matches against familiar South region opponents. First up, the Bruins will face Trinity Baptist College at 1 p.m. The Eagles enter the weekend at 0-2 having dropped a match to Webber International on September 5. The Bruins have had success against TBC in the past as the team has posted a perfect 7-0 record in their history against the Eagles.
The Bruins will end the weekend facing Johnson University (FL) at 3 p.m. The Suns enter the weekend at 1-1 on the season having split their opening matches with a win over Trinity College (FL) and a loss to State College of Florida. The Bruins and Suns have met thirteen times in their history with the Bruins posting a 13-0 record against JUFL.
