The Bruins suffered another tough loss on the road on Tuesday night as the team fell to Warren Wilson College 84-69 in Asheville, North Carolina. With the loss, the Bruins fall to 5-7 on the season.
"We have to improve in every area of our team and that starts with each one of us taking a hard look in the mirror," Bruins interim head coach Tony Miller said.
The Bruins came into the game on the heels of a tough loss to Toccoa Falls College on Saturday. The team looked to bounce back as they faced the Owls of Warren Wilson who came into the game at 1-12 on the season.
From the opening tip, the Bruins and Owls went back and forth trading baskets and the lead. Each team looked to establish momentum and build their lead but the other would come right back with the score remaining close throughout the first half. The Bruins were able to notch a 31-29 lead right before halftime but the Owls would go on an 8-0 run to close out the half as they took a 37-31 lead into the break.
In the second half, the Bruins came out looking to claw their way back into the game. The Owls picked up where they left off as they took advantage of turnovers by the Bruins to push their lead to 43-34. The Bruins were able to remain within striking distance and went on a run to cut the lead to 43-40.
It looked as though the Bruins had grabbed momentum but the Owls stole it right back as they went on a run of their own to push their lead to double digits. Down the stretch, the Bruins tried to battle back but the Owls wouldn't be denied as they went on a secure a 84-69 victory.
Henry Blair led the Bruins with 24 points while Stephan Hugley had a double-double 15 points and 18 rebounds in the game. The Bruins again struggled from the free throw line at 57% as a team and committed 22 turnovers in the loss.
Next up, the Bruins will be back at home on Saturday afternoon as the team welcomes Mississippi College - the W to the Davis Field House. Tip-off for the game is set for 4 p.m. in Greenville, South Carolina.
