Bruins Battle to a 0-0 Draw Against South Region Rival Pensacola Christian College

In a NCCAA South Region rivalry game in Pensacola, Florida, the Bob Jones University Bruins battled to a scoreless draw against Pensacola Christian College Saturday night. With today's result, the Bruins are 8-3-2 on the season and undefeated in conference play (1-0-1).

"Tonight was an emotional battle. We knew we would control the game, but if we didn't finish our chances they would grow into the match," said Head Coach Greg Fulton. "I thought we started to let them in the game late in the first half but our team did a great job adjusting in the second half. PCC is always a tough place to play and the result isn't necessarily bad, but we are disappointed having played the better game. Ultimately we now know what faces us at the region tournament and will be ready to rewrite the story."

The Bruins entered Saturday's game off of a big 1-0 victory over NCAA DII Converse University on Tuesday. Pensacola Christian College came into the weekend 8-1-4. Today marked the 11th meeting between the region rivals with the series even at five wins apiece and BJU taking the last four victories.

As the game kicked off from Eagle Field in Pensacola, Florida, PCC saw one of the first scoring opportunities just five minutes into the match, but James McCarty came up big to make some defensive stops to block the potential shot.

About halfway through the first 45, the Bruins got their chance as Asher Aurednik crossed the ball to Rylan Boldt who's shot missed by inches to hit the top of the crossbar. Just minutes later, the Eagles tried again to put the ball away from the top of the box, but the Bruins backline stood strong to make several defensive blocks.

The Bruins were knocking and with under 20 minutes remaining in the first half, Bryce Ramler sailed the ball from the near corner which was blocked by PCC goalkeeper Bryce Hammond. Mario Figueroa collected the ball and passed it forward to Aurednik who tried to poke it in, but Hammond made the save.

At the end of the of the first half, the score remained deadlocked.

Back on the field after halftime, the Bruins held possession and maintained control. They sent eight shots towards the PCC net forcing Hammond to make three saves in the second half. Despite their efforts, at the final whistle both teams came up empty and left the pitch in a 0-0 tie.

Up next, the road trip continues for the Bruins as they make their way to Montgomery, Alabama to take on Huntingdon College Tuesday afternoon.
