In a double header, the Bruins played Brevard College and Pfeiffer University. To get things started in the early timeslot, the Bruins swept the Brevard Tornados 25-19, 25-19, and 25-14. To finish off their night, the Bruins volleyball team honored Head Coach Vickie Denny for reaching her 1,200th career win. Against Brevard, the Bruins took an early lead during the first set and never looked back. Katelyn Landkrohn had Timbre Cruz each had a pair service runs to keep that lead. In a similar second set, the Bruins played at a high level to keep the momentum in their favor. Katherine Hoopes accounted for six kills during the second set. Finally, in set three the Bruins took a strong lead over the Tornados allowing for several bench players to come in. Katherine Hoopes finished the match with a double-double totaling 11 kills and 10 digs. Kiersten Hoopes, sister to Katherine, also had a double-double in the match with 31 assists and 21 digs.
A short break between matches for the Bruins and they were right back into action against the Pfeiffer University Falcons. The Bruins wasted no time, taking a huge lead over the Falcons during the first set. The Bruins took advantage of 14 combined kills and another five aces to win the set. In a close second set, the Bruins showed a lot of grit and determination to stay ahead, but it would come down to the final few points to decide who would take the set point. Victoria Glaze finished the set with a service run and a pair of aces. In an exciting third set, the Bruins found themselves down 16-9, but the offense went to work to put the Bruins back up 21-17. The Bruins finished the set 25-21 for their second clean sweep of the night.
"Both matches were good tests for us as we were pushed by both teams and responded well," said Head Coach Vickie Denny. "Being able to turn the momentum to come back and win in 3 in both matches demonstrates some grit and determination. Both qualities we will need as we finish out our regular season. It has been a good year so far and we still have more goals to accomplish before we are done."
Up next, the Bruins will be on the road next Friday taking on Regent University and Carolina University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
