The Bruins are set for another season rematch this week as they invite Warren Wilson to the Davis Field House Thursday evening. The Owls are a young, scrappy team and are playing in their inaugural season. Despite their 1-13 record this season, they are a lot stronger than they look. Earlier this season, when the Bruins traveled to Swannanoa, North Carolina, both team played in a highly competitive match. The Owls played each set all the way to the end, but the Bruins finished the match 25-18, 25-18, and 25-20 to go 3-0.
After their previous matchup this season, Head Coach Vickie Denny commented, "they came out with aggressive play on both offense and defense and made us earn our points for the win. As a new program, they are solid and are well coached. I anticipate they will just get better and better as the season continues."
The Owls finished a match Saturday against Bluefield University. The Owls made it interesting by winning the first set 25-22. While the Owls continued to play hard, they couldn't quite get it done. In three more sets, the Owls fell to Bluefield 1-3. Standout Junior, Kaitlyn Helinsky, finished the night with a double-double recording 13 kills and 17 digs.
Tuesday night, the Bruins welcomed the Johnson and Wales University Wildcats for a match. The Bruins played their best volleyball while serving against the Wildcats. The team recorded a season high 17 aces during the match. In a quick one, two, three set match, the Bruins won 25-12, 25-9, and 25-11. The Bruins have been playing extremely well this season and amassed a 17-3 record so far.
