Tonight, the Bruins welcomed Warren Wilson to the Davis Field House for a match. The two teams met earlier this season playing on the Owls' home court. In a tough matchup, the Bruins found a way to win against a young and scrappy team. Their previous match finished 3-0 with the sets ending 25-18, 25-18, and 25-20.
The first set tipped off and you could tell that the Owls were ready to compete as they took the first couple of points. After the Bruins tied it back up at 4-4, Katelyn Landkrohn went back to serve and found a rhythm to put the Bruins up big and force the Owls to take a timeout. After the timeout, the Bruins went on to score twice more to bring their lead up to 13-4 in the. A few times back and forth, the Owls would bring their score up 18-8, but any attempt at making a comeback was out of the picture. Victoria Glaze finished the set while serving to put the Bruins on top 25-8.
As set two got underway, the Bruins and Owls played a competitive few points as the score went back and forth before favoring the Bruins. Once the Bruins had a 12-9 lead, they started running away with it. Any attempt the Owls made to get the serve back, the Bruins would only allow them one the one before putting up a few more points. The Bruins finished set two 25-12 with Victoria Glaze back serving.
When the Bruins started the third set, they quickly took the lead. Timbre Cruz went back to serve and helped the Bruins amass 10 straight points. Falling so quickly behind, the Owls were unable to do much. The Bruins held a 14-1 lead before Cruz handed the ball over. At that point, the Bruins started subbing in some bench player to get them play time. With no struggles keeping the lead, the Bruins finished the set 25-10 and won the match 3-0.
Head Coach Vickie Denny commented, "it was another great game for us! Being down our starting setter, Eden Swihart came in and led our offense with a solid performance. Shout out to her tonight!"
The Bruins will be back in action on the road this Saturday, October 7Â to take on the Guilford College Quakers.
