The Bruins traveled to Lynchburg, Virginia this weekend for a pair of games. They played their first game of the weekend against the University of Lynchburg Hornets tonight. The Bruins fell in a tight matchup 64-66. After holding the lead for much of the game, the Hornets got hot right at the end and stole the game right from under the Bruins noses.
The game started out with the Bruins taking a sizable lead. With a double-digit lead at the start of the second quarter, the Bruins lead slowly dwindled down until the Hornets had cut the Bruin's lead to just two points. Coming out of the half, the Bruins played with the same fire they did at the beginning of the game, but late in the third quarter the Hornets made a comeback to take their first lead since the beginning of the game. BJU would regain their lead and hold a slight edge 50-47 when the third ended. The two teams would go back and forth, trading score leads until the very end. The Bruins couldn't hold and lost 64-66.
"180 degree change from our game on Wednesday. It still goes down as a loss but we competed on a totally different level tonight which is a great improvement," said Head Coach Mike LeViere. "We can walk away tonight really pleased with our defense and rebounding."
Four Bruins hit double-digit scoring tonight led by graduate student Shea Dickinson who had a double-double with 10 rebounds and 15 points.
"Great minutes tonight off the bench for Bria and Beth. Skebo had some awesome rebounds," Coach LeViere added. "Katrina and Anna Layne played best games of their young careers. We now have some positive trajectory and excited to see how much better we are going to be."
Next up, the Bruins will face Randolph College before making their way back to South Carolina. That game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. and can be watched
