The women's basketball team traveled to Brevard College tonight for their first action of the season. A tough night for the Bruins as they dropped the season opener 60-80 to the Tornados. Ten different Bruins would see the court tonight during their first game of the season. They'll look to get back on track this weekend.
The game opened well for the Bruins as Shea Dickinson won the tip and Caitlyn Dickerson put it up to score the first points of the game. In response, the Tornados quickly put up a three-pointer, regained possession from the Bruins, and then put up another three for their early lead. The hot start from the Tornados led to much of the momentum going in their favor. After ten minutes of play, the Bruins were down 10-17 and at the half found themselves down even further 20-42.
Coming out of the half, the Bruins were still struggling to find any sort of rhythm. The third quarter finished up 31-60, still trailing. Finally in the fourth quarter, they found some shots and were able to get some scoring going. The large deficit at the half proved to be too much though as the game ended 60-80 in favor of the Tornados.
"Disappointing start to the year simply due to the fact that we didn't come out ready to compete. We failed to get defensive stops and then compounded that by not rebounding," commented Head Coach Mike LeViere. "The good news is that we know we are just at the beginning and we are going to get better."
The Bruins will be back in action later this week they travel to Lynchburg, Virginia for a couple of games. Tip off is scheduled for Friday night at 6:00 p.m. against the University of Lynchburg. Stay up to date with more Bruins news at
