The Bruins were back at it tonight with a road game against Sewanee the University of the South. The Bruins and Tigers played a fierce game, but it was the Tigers who would come out on top as the Bruins fell to the Tigers 66-62.
"The team put a lot of effort out tonight especially in the second half," said Head Coach Mike LeViere.
The Bruins started out from the tip-off allowing the Tigers to score a three-pointer right away. Caitlyn Dickerson matched that with a three-point shot of her own to get the Bruins on the board. For several minutes, the Tigers had their way running up the score on the Bruins. With 3:34 remaining in the quarter, Annie Miller broke the Bruin's scoring drought with a made jumper to bring the score back to within six points. The Bruins finished the quarter down 18-9.
Right out of the gate, the Tigers continued scoring and held a lead making it difficult for the Bruins to score anything. Throughout the second quarter, the Tigers would go on a scoring run and hold the Bruins to only a couple of points in each. With the Bruins quickly falling behind, it looked like the Tigers were going to run away with the game as they took a 38-18 lead with only a minute left in the half. A jump shot and three-point shot by Hallie Ritter and Anna Layne Wylder brought the halftime score to 38-23.
Coming out of the half, the Tigers started out strong while the Bruins had a slow start. After a few minutes, the Bruins started waking back up to get the scoring going again. For nearly three minutes, the Bruins went on a 9-2 run to pull the score back to 46-33. A three-pointer by Shea Dickinson pulled the Bruins to within 10, but the Tigers found a lane to score one more time before the end of the quarter.
The start of the fourth quarter began with the Bruins trailing 54-42. What could have been a runaway game turned into a close match between the two programs. With 5:57 left in the game, the Bruins had come within two points after being down by 20 at one point in the first half. The back and forth battle finished with the Bruins falling short of complete comeback in the 66-62 battle.
"With the exception of free throw shooting, the second half showed what the entire game should have been," continued Coach LeViere. "Even digging a hole for ourselves we could've easily won. Hopefully we can get our mindset right and be ready to compete tomorrow!"
Up next, the Bruins have one more game before the Christmas break. They travel to Lookout Mountain, Georgia to play the Covenant College Scots at 2 p.m. That game can be watched live
