In their sixth game of the season, the women's basketball team pulled together four quarters to claim their first win of the season 72-66 over Greensboro College. Both teams had some great play makers and scorers throughout the game. The Bruins prevailed as the time expired.
In the first quarter, the Bruins fell behind, but stuck with it to keep themselves in the game. At the end of the first, the score was 16-19 Greensboro. Going into the second quarter was a similar story and score, only the roles were reversed as the Bruins took the second quarter 19-16 to end the half in a tie at 35 apiece.
The back-and-forth bout continued into the second half of the game. Trading points, the Pride took a two-point lead going into the fourth. With 5:57 to play, the game was tied at 62. As time continued to tick away, the Bruins were able to pull away just enough to help seal the deal. Katrina Tabora laid it up to give the Bruins a seven-point lead with 34 seconds to play. Tabora finished the game after being fouled with a pair of free throws.
"It is great to get the victory and celebrate our successes," began Head Coach Mike LeViere. "We showed some poise in the last minutes and executed both offensively and defensively and that's what caught us to win. Just like every game and practice, we are going to learn from this and be better tomorrow."
Up next, the Bruins are going to see their first home action of the season as they host the Sewanee Tigers. That game is scheduled for Monday at 5:00 p.m. in the Davis Field House. Be sure to come out and show your support for the Bruins.
