The Bruins and Sewanee Tigers played in the Davis Field House tonight in a close game. The two teams would battle it all the way to end, but the Bruins came out on top 83-80. The highlight of the night was four different Bruins contributing double-digit points to lead the team to a second straight victory.
For four quarters the two teams battled it out with neither team finishing a quarter by more than a three-point lead. After the Tigers quick score to start the game, the Bruins took the lead back and led for the entire first quarter. The 21-18 point lead wouldn't be enough to hold the Tigers off as they reclaimed the lead from their many rebounds. The first half ended with the Bruins holding a narrow 40-37 lead.
The third quarter was much more back and forth. Both teams would trade points, but neither team earned more than a four-point cushion. Just before the quarter came to a close, Katrina Tabora added to her stat sheet with a pair of free throws to put the Bruins up 60-56. The fourth quarter turned into a nail biter as there were several lead changes and ties throughout. With 7:13 to play, the Tigers tied it up at 70 apiece, but 30 seconds later Catherine Skebo drained a 3-pointer to give the Bruins the lead. The Bruins would ride that lead for the rest of the game to take home their second straight win 83-80.
"We've played a lot of really close games to start the season and I think that's going to help us overall as long as we learn from it and continue to grow," stated Head Coach Mike LeViere. "I felt like our bench was really deep tonight. We could put in whoever and good things were going to happen. I have a lot of confidence in the team and I think they're growing and learning all the time."
Up next, the Bruins are home again tomorrow night against the Brevard College Tornados. The two teams are set to play at 6:00 p.m. in the Davis Field House. Be sure the follow the Bruins all season long at
