Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Joseph Gehman

Bruins Outpaced by Brevard College

The women's basketball team was set for their second straight night of home action. A tough first quarter and second quarter surge was not enough to keep up with Brevard College as Bruins lost 42-61.

The first quarter was a tough one tonight as the Bruins couldn't buy a bucket. Forward, Shea Dickinson got things started for the Bruins right away with a nice jumper in the first 60 seconds. Brevard answered right away to tie it up and then they went on a run to finish the quarter.

As bleak as things looked for the Bruins to start to the second quarter down 3-20, four different Bruins put together six 3-pointers to cut the Tornados lead. Beth Clark got it started for the Bruins, followed by Anna Layne Wylder with three of her own and Annie Miller and Shea Dickinson both contributing outside the arc. Going into halftime, the Bruins had a chance to keep pace being down by 11 points in the 25-36 game.

Halfway into the third quarter, the Bruins had cut the Tornados lead to just seven points to be down 31-38, but couldn't keep their momentum. A 13-point run by the Tornados put them up big and the Bruins couldn't recover. The Bruins couldn't convert on their possessions and fell to the Tornados 42-61.

"Tonight was a good game for us. This being our fourth game in five days, it forced us to dig deep," Head Coach Mike LeViere began. "A good team like Brevard is going to make us pay for our mistakes and it's going to be difficult to come back from being twenty points down. However, the team showed a lot of heart and grit by doing just that and cutting the lead to seven. That effort was immense, and I think we just ran out of gas. This is a great game to grow from and be better because of."

Up next, the Bruins will be on the road for an exhibition against Furman University. The two teams are scheduled to play Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. Live stats for the game can be found here.
