Bruins Come up Big Against Regent University

The Bruins and Royals played a tough matchup tonight and after 40 minutes of play, the Bruins came out with a huge win 93-61. Anna Layne Wylder led the team tonight in points with 18 while Shea Dickinson led the team in rebounds with seven and three other Bruins finished the night with double-digit points.

"It was great to send a senior, whose final home game was tonight, off with a win. Kyla has been a great addition to our program and we are so thankful for her and her impact on our team," said Head Coach Mike LeViere.

The Royals won the tip-off, but quickly turned the ball over from traveling. The Bruins first possession was a three-point shot that went just long and the Royals converted on their next possession to take the first lead of the game. Catherine Skebo put the Bruins on the board with a three-point shot. For the remainder of the quarter, both teams kept it close as the first 10 minutes finished 20-16 Bruins.

For another 10 minutes of play, the Bruins would light up the scoreboard with several shots from outside the arc. Players, Bria Dickinson, Catherine Skebo, Annie Miller, and Anna Layne Wylder would all hit their three-point shots to keep the Bruins lead over the Royals. Going into the half, the Bruins would keep their lead up 43-32.

As the second half got underway, both teams struggled to get back into their rhythm as the score remained mostly unchanged. Through four and half minutes the score was 46-36, Bruins still leading. Shea Dickinson broke the drought with a three-point shot from the top of the arc. A few seconds later, Anna Layne Wylder stole the ball from the Royals and scored on a breakaway layup. Slowly, but surely the Bruins continued to pull away. They finished the quarter up 66-44.

Annie Miller opened up the fourth with three-pointer to give the Bruins a 23 point lead. Within just a few seconds later the Bruins put up four more points off turnovers. For the next few minutes, it turned into a defensive battle with neither team being able to score. With under four minutes to play, Annie Miller hit another three-point shot to double the first half score and go up 86-54. The Bruins finished the game with their biggest win of the season 93-61.

"Really good effort tonight from the team," started Coach LeViere. "We didn't play perfect, but we showed continued improvement offensively and defensively overall. It is a sign of our improvement that we can win by a large margin."

Up next, the Bruins will have the week off before taking a weekend trip. Their first stop is at Sewanee, Tennessee for a rematch against the Sewanee Tigers. Saturday, they will travel down to Lookout Mountain, Georgia to play Covenant College. Stay tuned for more women's basketball news at BJUbruins.com.
