The Bob Jones University baseball team dropped both games in today's doubleheader against Carolina University in Mocksville, North Carolina as the CU Bruins swept this week's series. With today's result the Bruins have lost five straight contests and now sit at 2-6 on the season.
"It was a tough day at the field today, but we are looking forward to playing back at home next week," said Head Coach Brent Casteel.
BJU came into today's continued Battle of the Bruins series on the heals of an 8-6 loss on Thursday. Friday's games marked games number 12 and 13 between the two Bruins programs.
The BJU Bruins got the scoring started early on Friday as an error by Carolina University gave Conley Burk the chance to score. Up next was Zach Burk as he crossed home plate thanks to an RBI single from Pablo Austin to put Bob Jones up by two. Carolina surpassed the BJU Bruins after two innings of play going up 4-2.
Cole Fazio opened the top of the third with a homer to tally the third run for his team. In the fifth inning, the Bruins saw another home run as Gabriel Swarms brought home three runners to bring the score to 11-6 in favor of Carolina.
Carolina went on to score seven more, and it was just too much for the BJU Bruins to overcome as they fell in game one 18-7.
After a quick break, both teams were back on the field for game two of the day.
The BJU Bruins struggled to get the bats going in the second game of the doubleheader as they only had two hits through seven innings. Carolina held BJU scoreless through the first six innings until Kam Lance got the Bruins on the board in the final inning.
After seven innings, it was Carolina University on the win column again as they beat Bob Jones 8-1.
Up next, the Bruins are back home at Conestee Park in Greenville, South Carolina where they will host Truett McConnell University for a 4 p.m. game.
