The Bob Jones University men's basketball team closed out their time at the NCCAA South Region tournament with a 91-71 loss against the top-seeded Toccoa Falls College Screaming Eagles. It was a battle throughout the contest, but the Screaming Eagles landed ahead on the scoreboard to advance to the region championship game on Saturday.
"Our best wasn't good enough tonight," said Head Coach Burton Uwarow. "It's really difficult to give maximum effort and have maximum execution two nights in a row. Toccoa has four All-Region players and the best player in the region so it was a tough matchup. I'm sad for our seniors, and I'm appreciative of all they gave to the program."
The Bruins were back on the court after a hard-fought 82-78 victory over Johnson University (FL) on Thursday. Bob Jones and Toccoa Falls met twice earlier this season with the Screaming Eagles taking the win in both contests.
Hayes Brush opened tonight's contest with a three-pointer to get the Bruins on the board. Both teams battled back and forth and with 10 minutes off the clock the Bruins saw themselves behind by just three points. Toccoa took off and went on to take a 10 point lead, but the Bruins fought to stay in the game and cut the deficit down to 43-41 heading into halftime.
After the halftime break, the Screaming Eagles went on a seven point run to extend their lead before the Bruins were able to get their second half scoring started. The Bruins continued to fight and put in the effort hitting several three-pointers throughout the second half, but at the final buzzer it was Toccoa Falls on top 91-71 ending the Bruins time at the region tournament.
