Buffaloes Shutout Bruins in Friday Doubleheader

Back at home at Conestee Park in Greenville, South Carolina, the Bruins fell in two shutout losses to Milligan University Friday afternoon. In game one, the Bruins fell 11-0 before dropping a 14-0 loss to close out the doubleheader.

"This team doesn't give up," said Head Coach Brent Casteel. "Every time we walk in here, they keep trying hard and working to get the bat on the ball. As long as they keep doing that, we're going to be okay."

The Bruins came into Friday's doubleheader 3-18 on the season after falling to Truett McConnell University on Tuesday.

As today's game got underway, the Milligan University Buffaloes got on the board quickly scoring off of a two RBI double in the top of the first inning. Looking to respond, the first three batters of the Bruins lineup each grounded out for a quick inning.

Milligan increased their lead to 7-0 after three home runs and an RBI double through the second and third innings. The score remained the same until a grand slam in the top of the sixth increased the lead for the Buffaloes. BJU worked to respond in the final innings, but was unable to capitalize as they fell 11-0 in game one of the afternoon.

As the two schools were back in action for the second game of the day, Milligan's offense got off to a hot start as they recorded seven runs on five hits in the first inning. The scoring continued for the Buffaloes in the top of the third as their lead increased to 11-0. BJU worked to slow down the offensive threat, and at the end of seven innings the Bruins fell in a final result of 14-0.

Up next, the team looks ahead to next Tuesday's road game against Columbia International University. Speaking on next week's contest, Coach Casteel said "CIU has a great ball club. All I can do is expect my guys to show up and do what they're supposed to do and apply the things they've been learning all week, and play hard because these guys are going to be coming after us."
