BJU Falls in Game One of Battle of the Bruins

In their first game back home in close to a month, the BJU Bruins fell to Carolina University in a 26-9 decision from Conestee Park in Greenville, South Carolina.

Carolina University wasted no time as they scored four runs in the opening inning thanks to a 3RBI home run and another RBI double. As the Bruins took their turn at bat, an RBI triple by Kam Lance sent Riley Ramsey home to put Bob Jones on the board. Up next to bat was Conley Burk whose ground out to the shortstop allowed a run to score as the BJU Bruins continued to cut down at the CU Bruins lead. A base hit from Pablo Austin followed by a double from Daniel Barcena and a walk from Gabe Swarms, saw the bases loaded as Cody Kirkpatrick came up to bat. He grounded out to second base, but sent Pablo Austin home. At the end of the first inning Carolina University led 4-3.

It was a quick top of the second inning as the Bruins didn't allow any runs or hits. With two outs and Zay Brandt on base in the bottom of the second, Conley Burk delivered a timely 2RBI home run to see Bob Jones take the 5-4 lead.

Carolina regained the lead in the fourth inning as they added three more runs to their score. The scoring spree continued in the fifth inning for the CU Bruins. In an inning that lasted nearly 40 minutes, Carolina recorded 19 runs to run away with the 26-5 advantage.

While the BJU Bruins could've just given up, they looked to battle back and were able to score four more runs in the bottom of the fifth.

The game concluded after seven innings of play with Carolina University taking game one of the weekend series 26-9.

The Bruins are back in action on Tuesday as they host Brevard College from Conestee Park in Greenville, South Carolina at 6 p.m.
