Volleyball Team Opens Preseason with Battle of the Blues Scrimmage

The women's volleyball team opened their 2023 preseason slate Friday night as the team competed against each other in their annual Battle of the Blues intrasquad scrimmage. Over 300 fans showed their support of this year's team as they packed into the Davis Field House.

"It was a solid first scrimmage matchup as the two teams battled it out," said Head Coach Vickie Denny. "Both sides showed a good variety of offensive plays as well as some great defensive saves. We have much work to do before beginning our regular season in two weeks, but this group is working hard to get better. We are looking forward to a great season ahead."

The team made up of many returners as well as some new indoor volleyball additions was divided between two sides with one group donning the Navy blue and the other sporting Columbia blue. Through four sets played tonight, the Navy team came out victorious taking three set wins (25-19, 26-28, 25-14, 25-20).

"It was fun to play in front a good crowd," continued Coach Denny. "We hope to see many of these fans back cheering us on during the season. We appreciate all of the support."

The team is back on the court next week. Next Saturday the Bruins will travel to Spartanburg to face NCAA DII opponent Converse University followed by a match against Columbia College before a final tune up against Truett McConnell University at home on August 29.
