The women's soccer team was back on the road for more preseason action this afternoon as they traveled to the University of South Carolina Beaufort in Bluffton, South Carolina. USCB is affiliated with NCAA DII.
In the Bruins first preseason game, they played at North Greenville University, but the heat got the best of the day and forced a 0-0 draw. Despite the setback in their first preseason match, the Bruins will look to continue building their chemistry in preparation for the regular season.
"We were able to get all of our players in and they all got healthy minutes," commented Head Coach Chris Carmichael. "I'm very proud of how they collected themselves and were able to come back and control possession and there are many positives that we can take away from this game."
The Bruins finished their game with USCB in a 5-1 loss. After the game a penalty kick shootout took place, which was agreed upon prior to the game, where the Bruins won 1-0.
Midfielder Sylvia Cummings added, "the girls showed up ready for a challenge today and played through a mentally tough and physical game. Every player impacted the game and contributed to the overall effort of the team."
Coach Carmichael continued by saying, "many players have really picked up their game and this will bode well as we move into our regular season next week."
Next week, Monday, August 28, you can catch the women's soccer team in action as they conclude their preseason with their annual Blue/White Scrimmage.
