Volleyball Team Falls in Saturday Scrimmages

The volleyball team was back on the court Saturday for two matches in Spartanburg, South Carolina against Converse University and the University of Charleston (West Virginia).

"Today was a good outing to expose the areas we need to focus on before we start our season next weekend," said Head Coach Vickie Denny. "While we had some outstanding defensive play, especially from our back row, we struggled offensively all afternoon. A bright spot for the day was having Victoria back on the court after being out all last season. Another positive from the day was the contribution off the bench by freshman Hannah Goodwin."

In game one, the Bruins faced Converse University. The two Upstate schools have met five times since 2016 where the Valkyries hold the 4-1 record. Playing four sets in today's game, the Valkyries topped the Bruins 4-0 (25-15, 25-10, 25-12, 25-21).

Back on the court for their second game of the day, the Bruins took on the University of Charleston for the first time in program history. The Bruns put up a good fight against the Division II program but fell 25-15, 25-19, 25-18, and 21-17 through four sets.

Up next, the Bruins will host one more preseason match as they welcome Truett McConnell University to the Davis Field House Tuesday evening.
