The 2023 regular season officially kicks off this weekend as the Bob Jones University Bruins women's soccer team travels to North Carolina for a pair of games at the North Carolina Wesleyan College Classic.
BJU faces the host school North Carolina Wesleyan in their season opener on Friday with a 4 p.m. kickoff. Friday marks the third consecutive season opener against the Battling Bishops with the Bruins owning the 2-0 record. In last year's meeting, the Bruins generated a lot of goal-scoring opportunities and were able to capitalize and earn the 5-2 victory.
The Bruins won't have much time for rest and recovery as they are back on the field on Saturday for a 2 p.m. kickoff against Meredith College. BJU is familiar with Meredith College as the two schools have met twice over the past two seasons. After securing a 4-0 shutout in 2022, fatigue took its toll on the Bruins in 2023 as they were shutout by the Avenging Angels 1-0.
The women's soccer team enters the weekend with two preseason matches under their belt. They took on North Greenville University back on August 21 where they played to a 0-0 draw in a shortened game due to high heat before facing the University of South Carolina Beaufort last Saturday.
Kickoff for Friday's season opener is scheduled for 4 p.m. followed by a 2 p.m. start time on Saturday in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
