The women's volleyball team kicks off their regular season on the road. The Bruins will be traveling to Averett College in Danville, Virginia. The team starts off their competition with a pair of games Friday afternoon and will conclude their weekend trip with another pair of games on Saturday.
The volleyball team concluded their preseason falling 3-1 in an exhibition match against Truett McConnell University. Despite the loss, the Bruins wouldn't go down without a fight. During the contest, the Bruins had the opportunity to take a 1-0 lead after the first set (25-23), but couldn't quite come out on top in final three sets (20-25, 22-25, and 18-25).
Head Coach Vickie Denny had this to say after, "Truett is a strong team, and I thought we made some great defensive plays to keep us in the game. We're excited to start our regular season on Friday."
Looking ahead to the matchups, the Bruins will play Hollins University, Averett University, Randolph College, and will conclude with Roanoke College.
Hollins University (NCAA DIII)
This will be the first time these two teams have met. This is also opening weekend for both teams, so both teams will be hungry to get that first win of the season under their belts. The Bruins are coming off of a National Title season and will look to continue their dominance this year. This matchup will be kicking off at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 1.
Averett University (NCAA DIII)
Averett University will be hosting their 29th annual Cougar Classic. This will be the third meeting between the Cougars and Bruins with head-to-head standings at 1-1. In their previous matchup, the Bruins took the Cougars to a thrilling 5 set match, but sadly dropped the 5th set and lost 2-3. The Bruins will face Averett at 6:00 p.m. Friday evening.
Randolph College (NCAA DIII)
In another exciting opportunity for the Bruins to capitalize on, Randolph and Bob Jones will be meeting for the first time. The Bruins have a little bit of a leg up on Randolph in this matchup as the team is more experienced. Randolph will be bringing a young group of girls with roughly half the team as incoming freshman. The matchup will be on Saturday, September 2 at 10:00 a.m.
Roanoke College (NCAA DIII)
The Bruins hold the edge over Roanoke with an overall record of 2-0. In their previous matchup, the two teams played back and forth going set for set. Each set was decided by four points or less and would go to a full five sets. The Bruins would win the 5th set 15-13 and finish the match with a 3-2 win. The Bruins will conclude the weekend at 2:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
