Bruins Tame Lions in 2-0 Win

The Bob Jones University men's soccer team won their fifth straight game with a 2-0 win over Piedmont University to improve to 5-2-1 on the season.

After a hard-fought game at Greensboro College on Saturday, the Bruins were back home at Alumni Stadium looking to continue their winning streak.

Tuesday marked the ninth meeting between Bob Jones and Piedmont University. Previously, the Bruins had only beat the Lions twice with those wins coming back in 2013 and 2014. Last year in Demorest, Georgia, the two teams battled to a 0-0 draw.

The Bruins got off to a good start in today's contest looking for that opening goal. As the clock ticked down in the first half, Anthony Ruiz raced towards the goal where he drew a foul inside the box resulting in a penalty kick for the Bruins. Hodari Twishime went to the spot and converted sending the ball to the right as Lions goalkeeper Bobby Wood dove left.

In the second half, looking to add to their 1-0 lead, Rylan Boldt passed the ball in the box to Malachi Ray-Tharpe who slotted the ball right into the back of the net to double their advantage.

The Bruins created more goal-scoring opportunities and in the 80th minute earned another penalty kick. Mario Figueroa's shot went wide to keep the Bruins lead at just two.

The 2-0 lead held until the final whistle for the Bruins to pick up their fifth win and second shutout of the season.

"The biggest thing I wanted out of this game was a winning result and a shutout," said Fulton. "Cameron Braswell came up huge on one of the moments we let them get behind, but other than that we did a fantastic job and were able to hold them. I'm proud of the defensive effort of our team tonight."

Up next, the Bruins will travel to Raleigh, North Carolina to face William Peace University on Saturday.
