Two second half goals saw the Bruins fall 2-1 from WakeMed Park in Cary, North Carolina to William Peace University. Saturday's loss snapped a five game winning streak with the Bruins now sitting at 5-3-1.
"This was one of those games where the score line does not tell the story of the game, but we take it for what it is and we move on," said Head Coach Greg Fulton. "We scored and had control early but struggled to adjust to their formation change midway through the first half. At halftime we made our own adjustments and completely dominated the ball in the second half. We made two simple mistakes (turnovers) in our defensive half and they had the quality to make us pay."
The Bruins entered today's game after a big 2-0 win over Piedmont University on Tuesday. Coming in to the weekend, the Bruins looked to extend their five game winning streak.
As today's game started, the Bruins took control early. In the 15th minute, a misplayed pass by the Pacers ricocheted off of Malachi Ray-Tharpe back to Sandro Martinez giving the Bruins possession of the ball. Martinez sent the ball up the field as Ray-Tharpe raced down the field, collected the ball and shot it past the keeper into the back of the net to give the Bruins the 1-0 advantage.
Their 1-0 lead held until the 53rd minute where a long-range shot by the Pacers sailed past Cameron Braswell to even the score.
The Bruins continued to send shots towards the Pacer's net, but weren't able to capitalize. In the 77th minute, the Pacers had a wide open opportunity as Jorge Lemus passed the ball to Danny Romanchok in the box to score the game-winning goal.
Despite the Bruins outshooting William Peace 20-9, the Pacers held on to their lead to take the 2-1 win.
"Ultimately we must learn that when you let a great team stick around and not finish your chances they will punish you and that is the story of today," said Fulton. "We will focus forward and learn from our mistakes. These are great tests for us as we prepare for several more tough tests these next two weeks."
Up next, the Bruins will be back home at Alumni Stadium for a Tuesday night match against Guildford College.
