The crowd fueled tonight's match as the Bruins took on their rival, Pensacola Christian College from the Davis Field House in Greenville, South Carolina. This matchup would mark the second meeting between the two teams this season and the 21st overall. With the sweep tonight, the Bruins now hold a 19-2 record over the Eagles.
The Bruins started the night hot as they jumped to a quick 6-1 lead. Eden Swihart and Katelyn Landkrohn would lead the charge during the first set as they both went on a couple of fantastic runs while serving. They would bring the score for the set up to 23-5. With only a couple points left, the Bruins would get the ball back from an attack error by the Eagles and Katherine Hoopes would finish it off with a service ace.
With the first set being so quick, the crowd started warming up too and it would only fuel the Bruins that much more. The second set would go back and forth to start out, but Victoria Glaze would help get the team going. Timbre Cruz would also contribute to the set with several kills as the Bruins continued to dominate the night. Set two finished with a monster block from Glaze to give the Bruins a 25-13 set win.
The block that ended set two put the crowd on their feet. The whole building was electric at this point. The excitement from everyone was the fuel the volleyball team needed to clean up the third set. Eden Swihart helped lead the charge as she served up several aces. Glaze and Cruz put together a combined seven kills with Kierstan Hoopes setting them all night long. The Bruins made quick work in set three to finish it 25-11.
The win would push the Bruins to 15-2 overall on the season.
"We wanted to start strong, and we were able to accomplish that in the first set," Head Coach Vickie Denny commented after the match. "Eden Swihart was able to get us some really good runs with her serves and our passing game is what helped us so much tonight."
After a quick night's rest, the team is headed back on the road for a tri-match against Tennessee Wesleyan University and Truett McConnell University. You can watch those matches
