Bruins volleyball was back in action this weekend with the NCCAA south regional kickoff tournament. Their first two games were Toccoa Falls College, host school, and Pensacola Christian College.
The first match would kick off with a close first set where the Bruins would win a close one 25-21. Toccoa Falls would then even the match 1-1 after another close set (21-25). Set three would be all Bruins as they would cruise to a 25-15 win taking a 2-1 lead in the match. Once again, set four would go very similar to the first two sets and once again would fall in favor Toccoa (21-25). All tied up to start the fifth set, the Bruins would fight all the way to the end, but would drop the set 12-15.
"In the first match of the day, Toccoa came to compete and compete they did," commented Head Coach Vickie Denny. "On the defensive side they just outplayed us, and it showed, especially during the deciding set when they fell behind and it was their great defensive plays that brought them back and sealed the win for them."
The Bruins would take only a short break before they would be right back into the action as they were slotted for their second match of the day against Pensacola Christian in the following match. Starting the second match, the Bruins wasted no time. They went one, two, three for the clean sweep over Pensacola. Their three sets were 25-13, 25-15, and 25-15.
"With a very quick turnaround we had to come back and go up against PCC. I thought the team responded well and we were able to take that match in three straight sets," said Denny.
The Bruins get back in action on Saturday when they face Trinity College (FL) and Trinity Baptist College. Those matches are scheduled for 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. You can watch both of those for free either on
