Bruins Take Down Tigers 102-56

In Thursday's NCCAA South Region showdown against Trinity College of Florida, the Bob Jones University Bruins men's basketball team pulled ahead to a dominant 102-56 victory. With today's home win in the Davis Field House the Bruins have improved to 6-3 on the season and remain undefeated at home.

Today's game marked the fourth meeting between the two NCCAA programs. The Bruins have finished on top in their last two games back in 2017 and 2018 and with today's win now hold the 3-1 series record over the Tigers.

Hayes Brush and Kenney Garrick opened today's contest from the arc to put the Bruins on the board first. The Bruins played with intensity and pushed to a double digit lead over Trinity with 12 minutes left in the first half. The momentum continued to build and as the buzzer sounded at halftime, the Bruins saw themselves leading 51-26.

With a 25 point lead coming into the second half, the Bruins didn't let up and opened the second 20 minutes of play on a 7-0 run. As the game continued, Coach Uwarow looked to his bench to contribute.

A layup by Caleb Ownes with 4:03 remaining gave the Bruins the 50 point advantage at 97-47. Trinity went on to score nine unanswered. With just over 30 seconds left in the contest, Davis McCarn drained a three-pointer followed by a jumper by William Snipes to put the Bruins into the triple digits and lock in the 102-56 victory.

Each Bruins player hit the court on Thursday with four recording double figures. Elijah Cupples led the way with 21 points followed by Hayes Brush who nearly tallied a double double with 18 points and nine rebounds. Dillon Harris finished with a season high 14 points alongside Trevor Brunson at 14 too.

"It was good to get everyone in the game," said Head Coach Burton Uwarow. "Scoring 102 points is nice, but most of that is for the fans. I just care that everyone got to get in and contribute as much as they can. I thought it was a good effort by everybody out there."

"As many positive things that you can do earlier in the year, the better for your momentum as you look to finish out the season in Feburary," continued Uwarow.

Up next, the Bruins will travel up I-85 to face Johnson & Wales University in a tough road match Saturday afternoon.
