Bruins Fall in Exhibition Against Southern Wesleyan University

The Bruins made their way to Central, South Carolina for an exhibition game against Southern Wesleyan University. The Bruins kept it close through the first 15 minutes of play, but quickly fell behind in the remainder of the game and ultimately lost 85-53.

Three Bruins would score double digits tonight with Catherine Skebo leading the way with 13 points, shooting 4-5 from outside the arc. Bria Dickinson and Julia Weigle would both finish the night scoring 11 apiece.

The first 10 minutes, the team played right with the SWU Warriors keeping it close in a 17-16 matchup. Getting into the second quarter, the Bruins continued to keep pace up until about five minutes remaining in the half. The Warriors had a deep bench and were able to keep themselves fresh while the Bruins are battling through several injuries. The last five minutes seemed brutal as the Bruins were outscored 8-0 until Catherine Skebo put up a three-ball with less than a minute to play. The Bruins would trail at the half 39-27.

Coming out of the break, the Bruins were right there with the Warriors again score for score, but they were unsuccessful in making up any ground they had lost during the first half. On paper, the Bruins only trailed by one in the third quarter 19-18, but after 30 minutes, the score was 58-45. Moving into the fourth, the Warriors once again dipped into their reserve and sent in fresh player to finish out the game. The Bruins tried to stay with it, but nothing was going their way and from 8:02 mark, the Warriors ran away with it. The Bruins were outscored 23-5 to end the quarter and lost 85-53.

Up next, the Bruins are at home Thursday against divisional opponent Trinity Baptist College. The Bruins and Eagles are scheduled to tip-off at 5:00 p.m. Thursday from the Davis Field House.
