Bruins Put on a Show for the Homecoming Crowd

The Bruins dominated another match coming away with a big 5-0 win over the Spartanburg Methodist College Pioneers in front of a large crowd on Homecoming weekend.

"We knew this weekend would be full of distractions and I am really proud of the maturity the boys showed tonight," Head Coach Greg Fulton said.

The first brought the excitement that everyone expected coming into the match. Both teams had a good amount of possession and several scoring opportunities. The finally capitalized on one in the 19th minute when Anthony Ruiz scored a header goal from the great cross by David Issa. After taking the 1-0 lead, the Bruins found their control. They won a free-kick in the 39th minute near the box. Mario Figueroa sent the ball into the box and connected with Matthias Baladi who headed it into the back of the net to make it a 2-0 score which stuck until halftime.

The Bruins continued to dominate the second half. Throughout the match, Mario Figueroa had several shots very close to the net but not quite on frame. He finally put a shot on frame and in the net in the 58th minute, extending the Bruins' lead to 3-0. Each time the Bruins scored, the Pioneers tried to move quickly to get one back but came up short each time due to the great defense shown by the Bruins. The Bruins added on even more in the 70th minute on a goal by Bryce Ramler and in the 86th by a PK goal by Dallas Albert.

The Bruins won the match 5-0 and extended their win-streak to six games. They closed out Homecoming weekend in a very big way.

After the game, Coach Fulton recognized the talent of his team. "This team is special and we are learning how good we can be," he said. "We now look to recover for a really tough road test next Tuesday!"

The Bruins play next on Wednesday, October 16 on the road against Pfeiffer University.
