After a hard-fought 90 minutes, the Bruins came away with a 2-2 draw against Carolina University.
"Collectively we didn't have our best game and positioning was off which caused our spacing and balance to be off as well," Head Coach Chris Carmichael said. "This made it very difficult to have any meaningful buildup. I am proud that our effort remained high throughout the game and this helped to keep the game leveled at 2-2."
The first half started with the Bruins getting a chance on goal right away. Carolina's goalkeeper was out and Mia Marks put a shot on net but Carolina had a defender in the right place at the right time to stop it. Shortly after, Carolina struck first making it 1-0 in the 7th minute. It didn't take much time for the Bruins to respond, though, because Jane Farr scored her first career goal in the 11th minute to tie it at one goal apiece. Just ten minutes later, Mia Marks found Sarah Ward in the box who scored and put the Bruins ahead. The rest of the half had a lot of back and forth movement with neither team possessing that much. It was 2-1 going into the half.
The second half seemed to be frustrating for both teams. Neither team had much possession and struggled to find space in the field. The Bruins maintained the 2-1 lead until Carolina scored a far out shot in the 76th minute knotting the score at 2-2. That score held until the final whistle.
"We did control the last 15 minutes and were creating some pressure and goal scoring opportunities but just couldn't put the winning goal in the net," Coach Carmichael said, "but our defensive line held strong again and took away a few last minute challenging situations to keep the tie."
After the match, goal-scorer Jane Farr shared her thoughts. "I'm really proud of the team's work ethic this game, but it was frustrating that we couldn't hold onto the lead," she said. "Obviously it was amazing to get my first career goal, but hopefully we can boost our momentum in training this week to finish out the season strong."
The Bruins next match is Saturday at 2 p.m. on the road against Columbia International University.
