Volleyball Team Sweeps Paine College 3-0

The Bob Jones University women's volleyball team wrapped up their weekend with a 3-0 sweep over NCCAA DI program Paine College to improve to a 23-10 overall season record.

"We are glad to be winning these final matches of the regular season as we look toward our upcoming regional tournament," said Head Coach Vickie Denny. "I am pleased that several of our freshmen had a good match today."

Saturday's game marked just the fourth meeting between the Bruins and Lions. Paine College and Bob Jones last met in October 2022 in Augusta, Georgia where the Bruins completed the sweep to go 3-0 in the series.

After a delayed start to today's game, the Bruins took to the court where a kill by Hannah Goodwin followed by an ace from Hayley Prater opened the score book for the Bruins. Soon the Bruins saw themselves leading 15-6 after going on a 9-1 scoring spree highlighted by some great kills by the Bruins. Bob Jones held to their lead as a kill by Bethany Estell sealed the 25-15 first set win.

Paine College opened the second set with four straight points before a service error put the Bruins on the board. The Lions held to the lead for the first half of the set before Bob Jones recorded six straight to come back and take the lead. It remained close through the remainder of the set, but in the end the Bruins pulled out the 25-21 win to lead the match 2-0.

Looking to close out the match, the Bruins got off to a hot 12-0 start in the final set. They continued to go on the attack and closed out the contest with a 25-7 set win to complete the 3-0 sweep over the Lions.

Faith Blalock led the team with 13 kills while Hayley Prater and Anne Lloyd each contributed 10 digs apiece. The Bruins recorded 10 aces throughout the contest with Hayley Prater serving five and Elyse Vest with three.

Up next, the Bruins host Senior Night on October 31 at 7 p.m. as they welcome Pfeiffer University to the Davis Field House.
