Bruins Offense Catches Fire in Win over TBC

The Bruins came away with a big, much-needed 6-0 win over the Trinity Baptist College Eagles with the help from a hat-trick by Celeste Baladi.

"The players did a phenomenal job executing our game plan and got right back on track where we need to be at this time of the season," Head Coach Chris Carmichael said. "Every single player had an amazing game and everybody contributed to this win. No matter who was on the field we were able to sustain a rhythm of play and we were able to create a lot of goal scoring opportunities."

Going into the match, Coach Carmichael and his team were focused on scoring goals, and it didn't take long for them to do so. Celeste Baladi scored her first goal of the day in the 12th minute which gave the Bruins a boost to score more. Just a minute later in the 13th minute, Mia Marks placed a ball into the corner to make it 2-0. With just under 10 minutes to go in the half, freshman Mady Pfaffenroth sneaked one near post and into the back of the net to extend the Bruins lead to 3-0 going into halftime.

It didn't take long for the Bruins continue scoring in the second half. Baladi scored her second goal of the day in the 49th minute. Just eight minutes later, Marks assisted Baladi for her hat-trick which put the Bruins up 5-0. With that assist, Mia Marks became the all-time assists leader in Bruin history! The rest of the half was a big possession game for the Bruins with only a few offensives run from the Eagles. With just three minutes to go in the match, Francesca Peters crossed it into the box where it was deflected in by an Eagles defender. The Bruins came away with a 6-0 win in their last regular season home game.

"Celeste Baladi had an amazing game getting a hat trick and got two more really nice goals out of Mady Pfaffenroth and Mia Marks," Coach Carmichael said. "I'm incredibly proud of the team's effort and performance today and for getting back on track after a challenging week last week when we did not play our best football."

After scoring her hat-trick, Celeste Baladi shared her thoughts. "Despite the other team's performance we still connected passes and stayed in possession of the ball. It was a deserved win especially with our couple previous games being a bit of a struggle. And I was, of course, ecstatic to be able to contribute three goals to our score."

Even though it's the last regular season home match, this is not the last time they will play at Alumni Stadium. They will host the NCCAA DII South Region final on Saturday, November 9. They will either face this Eagles team or the Screaming Eagles from Toccoa Falls College.

In the meantime, they finish out their regular season on the road against Spartanburg Methodist College October 2 with a 10:00 a.m. kickoff.
