Bruins Route the Pioneers to Begin National Tournament

The Bruins route the Pioneers in a dominating 11-0 win to start the NCCAA National Championships.

"The team did a great job opening up the field and using possession to unbalance their defense and as such we created a number of real nice goals and many more goal scoring opportunities," Head Coach Chris Carmichael said. "Every player contributed to this win and they were all  hungry to keep scoring."

The Bruins wasted no time to get hot in the first half. Celeste Baladi started the busy offensive night with the first goal in the 8th minute. Just a few minutes later in the 14th minute, Sarah Ward got a goal of her own to make it 2-0. Jane Farr added to it in the 19th minute with a shot from just about 25 yards out. Baladi then scored two more goals in a single minute for her hat trick. With just seconds before the halftime, Lily Davis put one away to put the Bruins up 6-0 at halftime.

To start the second half, Mia Marks scored two goals in the 48th minute on a penalty kick and then scored again in the 52nd minute. Baladi wasn't done after her hat trick, because she scored her fourth goal of the night in the 63rd minute. Mady Pfaffenroth and Abby Nelson both added goals to the Bruins massive lead.

After the match, leading scorer Celeste Baladi commented on keeping this kind of momentum heading into Thursday: "Collectively, we were all very content with how the game went," she said. "We kept our composure on the ball and played well together. We are eagerly awaiting our next game after today's performance and are looking forward to being on the pitch again."

The Bruins made a statement with this 11-0 win and look forward to their match on Thursday against Southwestern Adventist University which will have a 6:00 p.m. kickoff. If they win on Thursday, they will play for the national championship on Saturday.
