Bruins Offense Explodes in Win

The Bruins have four double-digit scores in their big 87-68 win against the Johnson & Wales Wildcats.

The Bruins got out to a quick 7-0 start before the Wildcats came back and made it close until about the midway mark of the first half. From then on out, the Bruins controlled the game and exploded on offense. Freshman Justin Skelton came off the bench and hit two big three-pointers which swung the momentum back the Bruins way. The Bruins shot 57% in the first half and forced 15 turnovers on defense which gave them a 40-21 lead at halftime. Tostadas Pouncey led the Bruins scoring at half with 9 points.

The offense stayed hot in the second half. Trevor Brunson found a shooting rhythm shooting 3-5 from three point land in the half and ended the game leading the Bruins with 23 points. The Wildcats went on a little run to bring it back within 12, but couldn't get any closer. Vanderhart and Pouncey both scored 17 on the night followed by Skelton with 13. Devin Dean led the Bruins in rebounds reeling in 9, some of which were in traffic. In all, the Bruins aggressive zone defense forced 24 Wildcat turnovers and scored 31 points off those turnovers.

After the game, Coach Uwarow shares his three biggest takeways: ""Justin Skelton was a big spark off the bench and I was very happy to force 24 turnovers and shoot 45% from 3."

This marked the first win of the season for the Bruins and will no doubt ignite the fire for another successful season.

Their next game is on the road Thursday, November 13 at Brevard College. Tipoff for that game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
