Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Kaitlyn Unruh

Bob Jones Falls to Brevard College

The Bob Jones University men's basketball fell in a 65-100 decision to Brevard College Thursday evening. Shad Vander Hart led the Bruins with a double double of 14 points and 10 rebounds. With today's loss, the Bruins now sit at 1-2 on the season.

Thursday's game marked the tenth meeting between the Bruins and Tornados. Bob Jones entered the game leading the series 5-4 with the most recent meeting last year resulting in a two-point loss on the road. The Bruins and Tornados have split the matchups through the last three years with neither team able to win both games.

As today's game got underway, Brevard College opened the scoring with an early jumper before Devin Dean's layup got the Bruins on the board. The Bruins went on a ten point scoring run to lead the Tornados 10-2. The Bruins continued to play well throughout the first part of the game, but 10 minutes into the first half, Brevard came back to knot the score at 19 points apiece. The Tornados took the lead through the rest of the first half. At the final second before halftime, Trevor Pittman added two more to the Bruins total to see them behind 30-40 at the break.

After halftime, Brevard increased their lead to 19 points before Trevor Brunson drained a three-pointer to cut at the deficit. The Bruins struggled to gain momentum as the second half progressed, and at the final buzzer fell to the Tornados 65-100.

"We started off the game really well," said Head Coach Burton Uwarow. "Dillon got hurt and Braxton was out with an injury and we immediately needed to change our game plan. We really struggled in all facets of the game. No excuses. Our youth and inexperience was on display."

Coach continued saying, "we are facing even tougher opponents over the next two months. We are going through some growing pains right now. I look at games like this as a gift. Our opponents are showing us all the areas we need to improve in. Now that we know, it's on everyone on our team to make those improvements."

Up next, the Bruins travel to Franklin Springs, Georgia for a Saturday afternoon exhibition against NCAA DII program Emmanuel University.
