The Bruins won a thriller in the Davis Field House against the Brevard College Tornados with a final score of 66-64.
"I'm so proud how this young team responded from getting beat by nearly 40 to this team just a couple weeks ago to winning in the final seconds tonight," Head Coach Burton Uwarow said. "They are starting to buy in and getting better every game."
This game was scrappy the whole time with offensive runs and busy hands on defense from both teams. The first half consisted of a 12 point lead for the Bruins, but ended with a five point deficit at the half. Devin Dean and Justin Skelton both played a quality half scoring nine points each on strong drives to the basket. On the Tornados side, Drew Smith exploded for 15 points in the half, but the Bruins kept him scoreless in the second half.
The second half was back-and-forth with the largest lead for either team being seven. The Bruins were down 64-58 with four minutes left, and ended the game on an 8-0 run to win. The second half was Trevor Pittman's half scoring all 10 of his points which included the game-winner with three seconds left. Then after making the game- winner, Pittman stole the ball away keeping the Tornados from the chance to tie or win the game.
In all, the Bruins had four players scoring in the double digits. Devin Dean led the way with 15, followed by Trevor Brunson with 12, Justin Skelton with 11, and Trevor Pittman with 10. The Bruins won the turnover battle, though it wasn't pretty for either team as the Tornados turned it over 23 times and the Bruins 18 times, but that is largely in part to the excellent defense played by both teams.
The Bruins travel to Lookout Mountain, Georgia this weekend where they will play Covenant College and Asbury University on Friday and Saturday.Â
