Bruins Fall in Florida to Region Rivals

The Bruins traveled to Pensacola, Florida for their penultimate game of the regular season. In Saturday's contest, the Bruins fell 93-62 to their NCCAA South Region rival Pensacola Christian College. With today's result, the Bruins sit at 11-13 overall and 5-3 in conference play.

"PCC came out aggressive and ready to play, and we were the opposite," said Head Coach Mike LeViere. "We played soft and indecisive and Pensacola did a great job of taking us out of our game. The atmosphere was great, but we didn't respond well and it seemed to affect us all game."

From the start of today's region contest, the Eagles got off to a quick start opening the scoring with a bucket from outside the arc and a jumper to go up 5-0 before Ainsley Hutton's layup put the Bruins on the board. Halfway through the first quarter, a three pointer by PCC put the Eagles ahead by double digits. Their lead continued to grow and the first quarter ended with BJU trailing 29-12.

The second quarter kicked off with a three pointer from Shea Dickinson followed by a jumper by Annie Miller. The Eagles then went on a 16 point scoring spree before Beth Clark's three stopped the run.

At halftime, the two teams went into the locker room with PCC leading 51-24.

After the break, the Bruins looked to slowly begin chipping away at the deficit. They put away 19 points in the third quarter, but it wasn't enough and they still trailed 73-43 heading in to the final quarter of play.

The fourth quarter started with a layup by Katrina Tabora for the Bruins. Throughout the final 10 minutes, the Bruins tallied 19 points to 20 from the Eagles. At the final buzzer, it was PCC who finished ahead 93-62.

Catherine Skebo led the Bruins with 12 points followed by Shea Dickinson with 11 points.

Up next, the Bruins will travel to Georgia next Saturday to close out the regular season against Toccoa Falls College.
