The Bob Jones University women's soccer team fell in a 1-0 decision to Spartanburg Methodist College Friday afternoon. With today's loss the Bruins are now 3-3 on the season.
That was a stinger of a loss as I thought we controlled all parts of the game and just needed more patience and composure in the attacking half," Head Coach Chris Carmichael said. "Despite coming in with heavy legs from yesterday's game the team did a great job controlling the game."
The first half was highlighted by a miraculous save by goalkeeper Margaret Cummings and several shots by the Bruins offense. The Bruins defense continued to play well led by Jessica Townsend. "She continues to play excellent on both sides of the ball and was a big part of the dominance in possession we showed today," said Coach Carmichael.
The Pioneers scored a goal right inside the start of the second half in the 47th minute. Though the Bruins had more overall shots than the Pioneers in the game, they couldn't put one away. The 1-0 score held till the final whistle.
Despite the loss, Coach Carmichael found it a big positive that Naomi Peters was back in action after nursing an ankle injury.
We will definitely learn from this game and move forward," Coach Carmichael said. "We are a much better team than what we showed and I am confident that we will get some big wins coming up."
The Bruins get a week off for good training before they face off against Pfeiffer University at Alumni Stadium on Friday, September 20 with a 6 p.m. kickoff time.
