Bruins Draw Converse in the Rain

The Bruins now own a record of 2-2-1 after their match against the Converse University Valkyries resulted in a hard-fought 1-1 draw in the rain.

"There are so many positives to this game," Head Coach Greg Fulton said. "The guys did exactly what we wanted to come do: start strong, take our chances, and battle."

With rain coming down the whole game, the wet turf at Converse University played a factor, but both teams seemed to handle it very well. The first half brought some exciting moments that were very much expected coming into tonight's match. Both teams possessed and had chances early on, but the Bruins struck first in the 14th minute on a header by Asher Aurednik assisted by Anthony Ruiz. Then in the 28th minute, the Valkyries were rewarded a penalty kick. Bruins goalkeeper Cameron Braswell had great position and was there for a save, but the kick went wide right. The Bruins kept the 1-0 lead going into halftime.

The second half brought the same intensity. Eight yellow cards were given out in just the second half, most due to stopping an offensive attack. The Valkyries came out with a lot of offensive pressure and were able to get a goal in a loaded box in the 49th minute. Throughout the rest of the half, both teams had big chances to win the game. Both goalkeepers made key saves and the 1-1 score stayed till the final whistle.

"If we play our game, I think these guys have the ability to line up against anyone," Coach Fulton said after the game. "We're now focused on recovery, and getting ready for Saturday night's match."

Up next, the Bruins take on Greensboro College on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at Alumni Stadium!
