The Bruins dominated the Falcons tonight with an astounding 7-0 win led by the hat trick by Francesca Peters.
The team did an amazing job implementing what we have been working on in training to the game," Head Coach Chris Carmichael said. "I couldn't be more proud of every single player as they all stepped up big and contributed to this win."
The first half brought exactly what the Bruins have been looking for. So far this season, they haven't score more than two goals in a game. It didn't take long for them to get there as Francesca Peters scored two goals in the first four minutes in the game! To follow that, she then assisted Mia Marks' goal in the 27th minute to make it 3-0 and finally surpass the two goal wall.
The first half also saw the return of Sylvia Cummings from injury. It did not take her long to find the back of the net as she scored in the 36th minute. Returning with Cummings, Myleigh Shaw made her season debut in the first half and played some quality minutes. A dominated match like this also allows for the younger players on the team to gain more experience and confidence.
The Bruins continued to dominate in the second half. After several offensive chances to start the half, Elli Cummings finally put one away in the 67th minute making it 5-0. That marked Cummings first goal of the season. Then to cap off her career night, Francesca Peters finished her hat trick scoring her third goal in the 83rd minute. The scoring was not done yet, though, as Sarah Ward joined the party scoring a goal in the 89th minute, ending the match at 7-0.
Coach Carmichael highlights defenders Jessica Townsend and Elli Cummings tonight for being offensive minded which forced the Falcons' midfield to become unbalanced in trying to pick up the attack. He also credits Reagan Tierney for continuing her great season of controlling the pace and possession of the midfield.Â
"Every single player that played was absolutely amazing tonight," Coach Carmichael said. "We need some quick recovery as we have a big game tomorrow."
After her career night, Francesca Peters gives credit to her team and the practices leading up to tonight's match: "I thought our team played really well and our communication was a lot better! I think that everything we've been doing in practice really came together and set up our team up for lots of opportunities."
The Bruins look to use the energy and adrenaline from tonight's match as they play again tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Alumni Stadium against Allen University.
