Bruins Win Again this Weekend

Even with a limited amount of rest, the Bruins came away with another big win beating the Allen University Yellow Jackets 5-1.

"Collectively our team is in a great place and I'm so extremely proud of their work rate, effort and playing just great looking football," Head Coach Chris Carmichael said. "We continue to create a lot of goal scoring opportunities and starting to finish them."

With less than 24 hours between their match yesterday and today, the Bruins didn't seem tired out of the gate at all. In fact, the first half started off a lot like last night's with a quick goal by Celeste Baladi in the 5th minute. Possession was dominated all game so it was only a matter of time before their next goal. That came in the 28th minute from Mia Marks, scoring her second goal in as many games and her fourth of the season. Just about a minute, later Sarah Ward scores her second goal in two games making it 3-0. A big highlight of the first half happened in the 38th minute when Abby Nelson scored her first goal of the season making it 4-0. That lead held until halftime.

The second half did not bring as much goal production as the first, but possession was still dominated by the Bruins. A big part of that is the continued excellence from Reagan Tierney and Shannon Miller in the middle. The Yellow Jackets were able to get one back from their offensive leader, Tatyana Machado in the 48th minute. Then in the 65th minute, Francesca Peters got a near-post goal of her own to finish out her excellent weekend. That goal made it a 5-1 score which held to the final whistle.

Coach Carmichael highlights Jessica Townsend and Jane Farr for having incredible games. Townsend continues to lead the back line while also making runs up the field. "Farr had her best game of the season," Coach Carmichael said. She was a key to the Bruins high possession rate today.

After the game, Jane Farr had this to say about the match: "After a good week of practice and big win last night, we all came out really wanting the win. We worked hard together and made that happen again this afternoon! Hopefully we can continue this momentum going into next week!"

The Bruins have a few days off before facing off against Averett University next Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. at Alumni Stadium.
