Bruins Remain Hot Against Welch College Flames

The Bob Jones University women's volleyball team began their competition at the Welch College tournament with 3-0 win on Thursday against the host school in Gallatin, Tennessee. With today's victory, the Bruins pick up their seventh straight win to improve to 12-8 on the year.

The Bruins and Welch College Flames were back on the court again after meeting in Greenville, South Carolina last week where Bob Jones earned the 3-0 win.

Welch College got on the board first before Hannah Goodwin recorded the first point of the night for Bob Jones with a big kill . A kill from Faith Blalock soon after tied the game early at four points each. It remained a back and forth effort between the Bruins and Flames before some strong offense and defense by the Bruins saw them gain a seven point lead halfway through the first set. A kill by Faith Blalock sealed the deal for the Bruins with the 25-12 set one win.

As the second set got underway, Goodwin knocked down a kill to open the scoring. The Bruins soon pulled ahead to a 7-3 lead. Big moves by the Bruins in front of the net saw them dominate with a 17-6 lead. The Bruins took care of business to close out the second set on top 25-9.

After picking up the early advantage in set three, the Flames tried to fight back to stay in the game, but the Bruins continued to lead pulling to a quick 13-5 advantage. The Bruins continued to stay hot and finished the set 25-10 to sweep the match 3-0.

"We played a much better defense against the Flames tonight compared to last week," said Head Coach Vickie Denny. "We had smoother offensive transition swings and scored well in the middle again."

Hannah Goodwin led Bob Jones with 16 kills on the night followed by Faith Blalock at 11. Three Bruins recorded double digit digs. Anne Lloyd led with 14 followed by Hayley Prayter with 13 and Faith Blalock with 12 digs on the night.

Up next, the Bruins continue their time in Tennessee with a game against Grace Christian University at 12:30 p.m. before a rematch of the 2023 NCCAA National Championship at 4:30 p.m. against Manhattan Christian College.
